The seven laboratories within the focus group conduct research concerned with the regulation of cardiovascular and respiratory function in both health and disease.
Specific areas of interest include: how hormonal, neuronal and intrinsic processes control of the heart, understanding the vasculature of the lungs, describing calcium regulation of heart rhythms, and identifying pathogenic mechanisms operating in diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart failure, hypertension and cardiac arrhythmia.
I believe the best way to grow as a scientist is to be thrown in the deep end early on. My summer projects gave me this opportunity in a safe and fun environment, so when I started my thesis research I was already familiar with the scientific method. Having finished my PhD, I also really appreciate the boost they give my academic CV!
