The eight laboratories within the focus undertake integrative molecular and cellular investigations aimed at understanding the development and adult physiology of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Specific areas of interest include mechanisms of neuromuscular development and neuroprotection, and the elucidation of neural circuits underlying motor control, reward, cardiovascular, olfactory and neuroendocrine functioning.
Techniques
Experiments are undertaken in rodent models including transgenic, knockout and Cre-Lox mice.
- In vivo electrophysiology
- Brain slice patch-clamp electrophysiology
- Immunocytochemistry
- In situ hybridisation
- Calcium imaging
- Single cell gene profiling
- Light, fluorescence, confocal and electron microscopy
